Ukrainian as a Second Language

Since 2023, we have offered Ukrainian as a Second Language (USL) classes — designed especially for those who want to focus on speaking and understanding Ukrainian rather than reading or writing

Classes for Children

We offer a Saturday group for kids whose primary language at home is English. Classes begin in September — check our School page for details.

Classes for Adults

We also run weekly online classes for adults

Cost & Benefits

Our Ukrainian as a Second Language classes are completely free for any adult patron of Toloka. We believe that language learning works best when it’s part of a vibrant community — and that’s exactly what you’ll find here.

As a participant, you’re not just attending lessons. You become part of a living, breathing Ukrainian cultural space where you can:

  • Practice naturally during other activities — from art and music classes to informal meet-ups and workshops.

  • Immerse yourself in our library, filled with Ukrainian books that you can borrow and explore at your own pace.

  • Celebrate and connect at our cultural festivals, where the language comes alive through food, music, and shared traditions.

We also understand that life can be busy and resources can be tight. That’s why we offer stipends to help remove barriers to participation.

Our goal isn’t just to teach you the language — it’s to make sure you have every opportunity to use it, enjoy it, and feel at home in it.
